Martinez, Ga--A lot of times our Operation Football Live/Augusta Chronicle player of the week winners are obvious. Guys you expect to have a big game throughout the year and do. This week, an unexpected performance in a big game has earned Lakeside running back Johnathan Long this weeks praise.
Against Evans Friday night the junior had by far and away his best game to date. 173 yards rushing with a good chunk of that in the first half as the Panthers ran out to the big lead. Coach Jarrett Troxler says long hasn't missed a session in the weight room all year and has gotten better each and every week, much like the offensive line.
"Throw in the fact it was Evans who he wanted to have a hundred yard game." said coach Jarrett Troxler "He's been working hard at it and we wanted him to have He rushed for 173 which was surprising especially the way we like to throw the football."
"I just really wanted a 100 yard game before the season ended" said Johnathan Long "My coaches told me it was going to come and I really wanted it really bad and so I just felt like I owed it."
Putting it in a different way, before tonight, Long's biggest output on the ground was just 63 yards. He tripled that in the Panthers biggest game of the year.
