Jefferson County poised for another deep run

Wrens, Ga--If you've ever been around a Jefferson County practice or a game for that matter one thing jumps out at you, the number of kids in uniform. A big part of their success can be attributed to that. It also helps they've had some great football players in the past.

Once again their over the 100 player mark and if you don't think that matters, you're sadly mistaken. You might not see it in September or October, but when it's late season and you only have one or two guys playing on both sides of the ball, the kids are a lot fresher and can go faster and stay stronger.

"We rotate a lot of kids and we'll play anywhere from 30 to 35 almost 40 kids a game just to make sure kids get on the field." said coach JB Arnold "We just find out during the season that it keeps us fresher and come playoff time we're fresher that late in the season while a lot of people have bumps and bruises."

Now its' not all quantity. Yes it has to a lot with quality. It starts with safety Lafayell Williams and running back Dontavious Kitchens. Two seniors who take a lot of responsibility as team leaders. Williams is one of the quickest around and is a big hitter while Kitchens had over 1000 yards a year ago. But he does a lot that's not noticed by the average fan that makes him special.

"All off season I've worked hard in the weight room, on the field, everything, helping my 40 time and everything." said Dontavious Kitchens "I feel like this year I'm going to be well prepared for my opponents"

"I think we've got some players in place that can make some plays for us." said coach Arnold "We don't want to put it on his shoulders but hopefully as a coaching staff we know he can carry us when it comes down to it."

The Warriors did lose a fair amount on offense and coach Arnold says the defense is rock solid and a head of the game here in the early going. Despite playing one of the toughest schedules around, Jefferson County should once again be a powerhouse late into the year.
