Greenbrier hopes to turn things around

Monday August 8, 2011

Evans, Ga--On the first day of school in Columbia County, we check in with one of the largest schools around, Greenbrier, as we go camping. It's been a rough few years with wins tough to come by for the Pack, but they are hoping to turn things around in the upcoming months.

The biggest key to their success this year will come up front on the offensive line. They were hit hard by graduation, and plenty of young faces will get the start this year. One big positive they have is running back Jahvon Hardrick. He was right around the thousand yard mark a season ago and will be relied upon a bunch in the early going.

"I have to be a lot more patient with them," says Hardrick. "I have to relax, because I know they're going to make mistakes, but so do I. We're all human. I definitely have to choose my spots. I kind of like running in the inside, but sometimes I'm busting it to the outside in practice. By game time we'll be ready. We'll be able to do whatever we need to do."

"I think really the inexperience on our offensive line," says Coach Brian Smith. "These guys are good, it's just a little time under the lights. I think just a few games under our belt, and we'll be fine."

Right now it looks like Cody Turner will get the nod at quarterback. Turner has had a good summer and is the leading man so far. Coach Smith feels like this is a tight knit group and may be able to use that to overcome some of the inexperience they have.

"The big thing is that all summer our group has been pretty unified and positive. This is a great bunch of kids they play well together. They encourage one another and so the attitude and the atmosphere has been great this year."

Keep an eye on Thomas Brown this year as well. A true play maker on both sides of the ball. Greenbrier has to get it cranked up early. They have a battle with new rival Grovetown right out of the gates next Friday as they host the Warriors.
