North Augusta, SC--When you talk Fox Creek football the conversation pretty much starts and ends with senior Marty Williams. One of the most dynamic players around is back for his senior season and is looking to take a Predator team further than they've ever been before.
A year ago Fox Creek went from doormat to a playoff team that won a game in the post season. We'd be fooling ourselves if Williams didn't get a lot of credit for the turnaround. This year though, no surprising anybody and he'll be the focus of other teams. Thus the reason others need to step up their game to take some of the heat off.
"Well, Marty is a great athlete and the good thing is we have so many other athletes who get overshadowed by him a good bit," says Coach Russ Schneider. "We expect that to happen, we're planning on that to happen and I think we'll see some other athletes who haven't been exposed as much get a little face time this year."
"Yes, really they're going to be keying on him so this opens up the chance for our other backs to get the ball and score more touchdowns and help us win. So really it's a good thing," says Quad Castleberry.
One thing their recent success has done is change the mindset of the program. They have more kids out and the effort is greater than ever. Sometimes building a winning team is tougher than maintaining it, and now Fox Creek is in the next stage. If Williams stays healthy, no telling how far this squad can go when they tee it up in a few weeks.
