A three win season for the Evans football team is not something this team is use to. It's also something the coaches and the players do not accept, thus the fuel for some fire for the Knights.
Even long time coach Marty Jackson is a smiling man this year. He loves what he sees and knows they have a chance to do something special. Won't come easy as everyone has to buckle down and focus on the job at hand. Here in the early going they are a very focused team.
"We're going to have to get better every day" said coach Marty Jackson "We have a chance to be something pretty solid but if we take a day off, you know, we don't have the ability to do that. So I think we just have to make sure we're getting better every day, and I want to see enthusiasm out of the players and coaches."
"We are high intensity this year" said Jay Grimes "We're ready to play. Coming off a terrible season last year but we're going to be doing better this year. We're just going to stay on the ground and do what we go to do and get work done."
Grimes will be one of the go to guys. The junior had a breakout season 12 months ago and is an all purpose player. He can run, catch and play defense, and probably play in the band at halftime...In other words, a coaches dream
"He just wants to play. He's a guy that when the lights come on he's ready but he practices , he's here, probably led the team in the number of days worked this summer, he's just dependable." added coach Jackson
Grimes won't be alone and keep an eye on Jacob Rizner who's shown he can carry the mail. Up front is still a question mark but coach Jackson loves the committment level he's seen and may be smiling in late november as much as he is today.
