Dexter Staley of Williston Elko is our player of the week

Wednesday November 17, 2010

Williston, SC--Williston Elko is a team loaded with talent. Nobody doubts that. Maybe the most exciting player on that squad can score on offense, defense and special teams. Did i mention he pretty much did all that friday night?? His name is Dexter Staley and he's our Operation Football Live/Augusta Chronicle player of the week.

Staley's performance in the second round of the playoffs was one for the books. A rushing touchdown, two receiving touchdown and two fumble returns for a score. He would have also had this punt return for a sixth score had a penalty not negated it. Talk about the complete ballgame. Thing is, this has become the norm for Staley who can electrify a crowd every time he touches the pigskin.

"It felt real good to play all the positions on Friday night." said Dexter Staley "I had a lot of friends and I had my family down here to see me play, and they'd never seen me play. So I had to play my hardest for them and I played for my coach's and stuff."

"You know Dexter usually stands out pretty well because he makes big plays on both sides of the ball." said coach Dwayne Garrick "I think that was the case this past week because he scooped a couple of fumbles, caught a couple of touchdowns passes. He's just a great all around player for us and probably the greatest thing about him is that he's such a great competitor."

With Kendric Salley getting the bulk of the carries this year, Staley has been a wide receiver for the most part. But as we've seen in the past, if they need him in the backfield, no problem what so ever.
