Martinez, Ga--In high school football, one thing you learn to adapt to is the turnover from one year to the next. But every now and then, the graduation somehow skips you over. That's Augusta Christian in 2012.
Keith Walton's Lions don't have every starter back, but it might feel like it when you watch them play. Starting with four-year starting quarterback Tyler Roberson, to running backs Thomas Banks and Sean Sweeting, and on from there, A.C. is full of experience, and that will be huge.
"We've all been going together since 7th grade and middle school, and we all just have that chemistry and stuff. That's the reason we'll probably be better than we were last year because we're just like a group." said Sean Sweeting
"We went from spring to 7-on-7, and we were able to put stuff in at 7-on-7 that we hadn't worked on since the year before, but they all knew it because they've been in the system so long. That helps out a lot." added Keith Walton
Of course, that doesn't mean it's smooth sailing on the way to a state title. Hammond has sent the Lions home the last two seasons and has won five the past six state titles, so the lions know who their competition is
Still beat Hammond. That's the king of the crop right now. They're on top. Until we beat them, they're the kings." added Walton
"When we see Hammond, we're going to end their season this year. It's going to be the opposite. It's not that we don't like them. It's just that we don't like them because they win." said Sweeting
The Lions get a shot at the Sky Hawks in the regular season as well. That's October 12th.
