Silver Bluff hopes speed pays off with wins when season starts

Petticoat Junction, SC--Year after year one of the top teams in South Carolina are the Bulldogs of Silver Bluff. Winning breeds winning in Petticoat Junction. This year, they're hoping to do something no Bulldog team has done in the last five years, get past the second round of the playoffs.

Don't think these guys don't realize the pressures that come along with it. But as coach Al Lown says, the pressure can be fun and that's why you play the game. This is a program that has a state title in the past decade and they know you just keep battling before things can work out.

"All we can do is keep working hard" said Silver Bluff coach Al Lown "We have a good game plan, we know how to win state championships here so its got to happen. It's been tough the last few years as we've lost by a play here or there but maybe this will be the year we get over the hump."

When you look at this year's team, one thing sticks out, speed. With the likes of Robert Green, Jalen Simpkins and Cordrea Tankersley, these guys can run with the best of them. That will put the pressure on an opponent real quick

"Speed, quickness, athleticism" said senior Jalen Simpkins "We're all mentally tough for the most part, that's what they preach around here."

"Well I think the biggest strength is our speed." added coach Lown "We can run pretty good at all our positions including our linemen so overall team speed is definitely our biggest strength."

The biggest concern for coach Lown is the offensive line. Right now he's expecting to start a pair of freshmen up front and knows without them, any speed can be negated in a hurry.
