Barnwell looks to return to winning traditon

Tuesday August 3, 2010

Barnwell, SC--After a tough season in which Barnwell won just two ballgames, and had issues on and off the field, the Warhorses are hoping time and a new head coach heals all wounds.

That new head coach is also a familiar face to Barnwell fans with Ed Moore taking over the program. He graduated back in 1995 and is now ready to run the show and return to the program to the glory years of days gone by. That is the number one priority for a program that's slipped over the years.

"We expect to do everything the right way, every time" said new coach Ed Moore "Our school district and school have taken some big steps to help us get to there. The first thing we have to do is get that attitude back in our minds that we're going to be a first class program and we're going to do things the winning way."

"You think back to Barnwell in the 80's and 90's, all we did is win" said Kevin Miller "He was here for that, he was a student here and an assistant coach here for a while and all he knows how to do is win and that's what this community is use to."

Now Moore doesn't expect this to be a quick fix and plans on implementing his offense in all levels of football in Barnwell. His priority on the field is for this team to improve from one game to the next.

"We want to improve every week" added Moore "That is the biggest thing. I don't like to put quantitative expectations out there, but we want to get better then the way we were before, we want to go out and try to play mistake free football and give great effort."

As with most small schools, depth is an issue and Moore is hoping to find some, especially in the backfield so no one player is a work horse.
