Barnwell, SC--We continue our trek around football camps with a trip to Barnwell and a visit with the War Horses. Five and six a year ago for coach Joey Still and his charges and an initial look at the team, they could be even better.
Shear numbers may come into play with Barnwell having over 60 kids in cmap. A third of the team, seniors, which bodes well for Friday night experience. Don't think they're all going to play though. With a Junior Varsity team that lost just once last year, some younger kids will be counted on.
We do have 22 seniors which is a great number of seniors but we also have a lot of talent at the younger level also," said coach Joey Still.
" It's going to be a mixture of both. It's going to be a mixture of some of these seniors who've been playing the last few years and some of these younger kids."
"We've got some kids that can step up. We've got a lot of younger kids that can play the positions," senior Britt Davis said.
Quarterback John McKay returns and should bolster the offense. McKay knows it's not always about athleticism.
"We've got a very smart team this year," senior quarterback John McKay, "Athletically we've had better teams in the past but character wise we have a very good team this year and i've looking forward to stepping in the huddle this year."
Barnwell opens the season with a road game against williston elko. Coming up at 11, we'll check in with the eagles of josey. And of course don't forget, you can see all our previews on line at w-r-d-w dot com.
