Hard work and dedication hoping to pay off for Patriots

Tuesday August 17, 2010

When you think Westside football, the word grit comes to mind, at least this year. With new coach Steve Hibbits taking over, the patriots are going to need a lot of grit to succeed.

Hibbits comes over from North Augusta and is trying to build on a three win season from a year ago. They don't have a ton of kids, they don't have the biggest size in the world, but they do have lots of desire and may rely on that as much as talent.

"The intensity of the practices have increased." said Jamal Qadir "They have a rule, once you hit that field, it's all out full speed. If you don't you're not going to make it."

"Well some people told me that's a Westside thing." added new coach Steve Hibbits "The kids around here know how to fight and really go at it hard so I think it's going to be a good thing for us definitely."

Of course the patriots do have to replace Chris Hunter in the backfield and that's where Tre Isom and others will need to step up. Westside is also having to do things fast seeing they didn't have spring practice before Hibbits came across the river. But he's happy the way the kids have been putting in the work and picking up the system.
