Different attitude hoping to turn Wagener Salley around

Wednesday August 11, 2010

Wagener, SC--Attitude is everything in football. You need to play on the edge and have some sort of swagger to be successful. When that attitude is gone, you can lose a team or program. That's the culture Wagener Salley is fighting as they go into the season.

One win on the field in the last two years and plenty of descension off the field. But after hanging around a practice you can see that culture is changing. Ken Tucker has taken over and now in his first full season, is bringing back a positive attitude, and yes, it is rubbing off on the kids.

"It's gradual" said coach Ken Tucker "As a coach it's not as fast as you'd want to see it but it's something that we're working on and something that we're trying to push our kids to be more committed and be more accountable to each other."

"We're trying to go from 0 and 10 and trying to make a big step up" said Rodriquez Dunbar "Our goal is to make the playoffs and to make that goal, it's hard practice, in 100 degree weather, it's hard."

The War Eagles have just two seniors on the squad so there's a good chance to change the mind set. Rodriquez Dunbar is a guy they'll rely on heavily to make plays while the likes of Bruce Corely and Darryl Bynem on defense are expecting to take charge on defense.
