Wrens, Ga--They might play in the independent ranks, but when you go to five straight state title games, winning three of them, you've got to be doing something right. At Thomas Jefferson, they do a lot right!
The Jaguars will be hanging their hat on team speed this year, something they possess plenty of. Austin Dressel and Nick Whitmer are just two of those speed demons they'll rely on. They've also been scrimmaging as much as possible to give a young offensive line time to get reps in to open the holes for those toting the pigskin.
"We have the rest of our backfield returning so I'm not worried about our speed." said Mason Johnson "But like coach said our front line, we're young on the line and we got to step it up and we got to work hard on the offensive line to get the guys out of the way to get our backfield through."
"I have to lead our offensive line because the other four haven't started any" added Jesse Cobb "We have one offensive lineman that's never played football in his life and another one that this is there first varsity year so there's a lot of pressure."
With all the success the program has had, there comes a little thing called pressure. Not always easy to deal with, especially for the younger kids.
"They don't want to be the ones that let the school down since everything has started rolling like it is." added coach Chuck Wimberly "I think that pressure is on them, I think right now that's why we're doing what we're doing because of the inexperience that we have to get them away from the pressure."
Jags get a chance for a little revenge right out of the gate taking on defending champs Terrell in week one.
