Augusta, Ga--It's been quite some time since Josey has posted a winning record on the football field. Whether they do that again this year remains to be seen. But what is clear as day, these Eagles are taking big steps in the right direction.
John Noah is now in his second year as head coach and says more then ever, the kids are buying into the system. Not easy for a team that's struggled over the past decade. With a new attitude and work ethic, that's all about to change. Sometimes it's a matter of the six inches between the ears then the 100 yards on the field.
"We've got to get over making too many mental mistakes" said coach John Noah "I think last year that killed us, we had a lot of fumbles, we had a lot of penalties in bad situations so our whole summer program has been about getting rid of the mental mistakes that we made."
"I feel like we run more things that are mental, then physical and I feel like that's helping us for what's coming forth in the season." added senior Demarquies Dunn
Eagles also return 35 kids from last year's team which adds serious depth to the roster. Namely up front on both offense and defense. That can pave the way for some of the younger skill position kids to really step forward.
"Working together for the quarterback and the running back and to make touchdowns and make yards." said senior Deandra Robinson
"We have not had enough linemen to go both ways and we'd always get tired in the fourth quarter so this year we have 11 kids that played last year on "O" and defensive line."
With the new realignment, there's some wins on the schedule if the Eagles can keep focused for the full 48 minutes and keep mistakes at minimum.
