Williston Elko is a team full of play makers. From the quarterback, to some wide receivers and most notably in the backfield. It's also where we find this week's Operation Football Live/Augusta Chronicle player of the week in junior back Kendric Salley.
This past week against HKT, Salley was the machine he's been the past two years. 260 yards rushing and an amazing six touchdowns. Now it's not like he touches the ball a lot. Matter of fact, he only had 13 carries for the Blue Devils this past week. It's just when he touches it, he runs a long, long ways.
"Well he's such a big play maker" said coach Dwayne Garrick "I think he's averaging well over 10 yards a carry, a lot of times when he touches it, it's 30, 40, 50 yards so he's scoring a lot of points. He's one of the best running backs I've ever coached, true running backs. He runs with his pad level down with great vision. He's actually a better zone back and we don't run a whole lot of zone."
"Well I just worked a lot harder in the summer to improve my game." added Kendric Salley "It makes it a lot easier, and it's good that we have a lot of play makers on this team."
Now here's a few more numbers to show you how dominant he can be. On the season, Salley has 21 touchdowns and 1200 plus yards rushing, well on his way to a 2000 yard season. He nearly did that a year ago as well. Even coach Dwayne Garrick knows he'll play a large roll in their showdown game Friday night when they take on 2nd ranked Calhoun County.
