Augusta, Ga--It's been five years since a Westside Patriot football team has posted a winning record. That streak could end this season.
Under Steve Hibbits, the Patriots are on the rise. This is his third year and after two seasons of playing a lot of underclassmen, those kids have matured. Not just that, they got some much needed wins a year ago. Four doesn't sound like much but where they came from, it's a good start as they hope to build upon that this year.
"The kids learned last year that when they get in close games, if they do those extra little things, they can come out on top." said coach Steve Hibbitts "Now we have to take that confidence and now use it this year for them to be on top the whole game."
"We have to keep up the intensity, we got to hustle and do things right and play good defense. We haven't been able to stop people lately but this year we will." added Brandon Hugee
Westside still has a bunch of youngsters including Jalen Lampkin who'll be spending his third year as a quarterback and is still a junior! Moving down to class 2-A should also help playing teams who lack the depth like the Patriots.
