Augusta, Ga--Now in their second year of football Westminster would love to eventually have some division one prospects on their team. They've had them in soccer, but football, that might be down the road.
This is still a very young team that only has one senior and five juniors. It's still a work in progress. Last year, they did win a game and showed signs on the offensive side of the ball, but defense, was not a thing of beauty. Right now though, it's about turning the school onto the sport and building from there.
"Yeah, there was a foundation even before last year," says new Coach Andrew Bryan. "They started with some middle school and worked their way up to JV and the guys did a good job last year of teaching fundamentals and things like that. Again, it's just continuing to create a culture of football here at a school that hasn't had it for many years."
"Defense is always a focus seeing you can't win if you can't stop people," says the lone senior Patrick Mosley. "We found that we have a good linebacking corp. The line is getting better this year, and we're working on our secondary and it's starting to get there.'
Andrew Bryan comes over from Greenbrier Middle School to run the team and knows he's got his hands full, especially on defense. As far as goals, its not about wins and losses. It's about having the kids give it their all each and every day.
