Edgefield, SC--It doesn't matter if you're playing junior high, eight man football or 11 man, if you run for over 200 yards, you've had a great game. For Malik Lee of Wardlaw Academy, he set the bar even higher, thus earning our Acadmey Sports and Outdoors player of the week.
On friday night, the Patriot sophomore had a career ballgame with 300 yards rushing, five touchdowns and another score on the defensive side of the ball. And it all came in the first half! That's a whole lot of production. He's the type of guy that lets his work on the field do most of the talking and is modest when he does speak.
"I had a good game, I played mainly the first half and the line blocked real good so it let me to only play against one person so I had to beat the one man."
In case you missed it, i said he is only a sophomore. He burst on the Wardlaw scene last year and started to make a name for himself with some big plays on their title team. It's unknown how far they'll go this year but you can bet lee is only going to get better as time goes on.
"Physically he's going to get bigger and stronger so naturally he ought to get faster and if he can get everything together, his academics are very strong, so he may be a top quality prospect in the next two years." said coach Mark Rodgers
"Well I learned to get my vision better and follow my blocks." said Malik Lee "I put my hand on the back of them, the lead blocker, and just make a move from there." added Lee
Coach Mark Rodgers also pointed out he has a different gear and if need be, he'll run through, around and even over people. And for his efforts friday night, we honor Wardlaw Acadmey's Malik Lee as our Operation Football Live, Acadmey Sports and Outdoors player of the week.
