Barnwell, SC - This week marks the midway point of the high school football season, and there's a number of teams still undefeated. That includes the expected, like North Augusta and Thomson, but also in there, Barnwell, the same Warhorses team that won just three games all of last year.
In fact, it's the first time since 2001 Barnwell's started the year 4-0. Finding sudden success can be a blessing and a curse because you don't know how the players will handle it, but from what they're saying, it looks like the Warhorses might be in it for the long haul.
Quarterback Mark Riley said, "It's not that tough. We just have to stay level-headed and ready to play each game. We always know everyone's coming for us, and we just have to stay on top of our game. "
"It's a quiet confidence," added linebacker Brandon Staton. "We don't want to get our heads too big because we know we still have region play and playoffs before anything big happens. We think we are good, but we don't want to be too confident."
The Warhorses finishing a challenging non-region schedule at Midland Valley this Friday, before starting into region play next week.
