Monetta, SC - When you think of Ridge Spring-Monetta football, you know you're going to see one thing for sure...run, run, run.
The Trojans aren't shy about running the football, but last year, it wasn't exactly helping them out. So this year, it might be a little different.
Coach Mark Rodgers is opening up the attack this year, and he's got a couple good reasons for it.
First, the Trojans scored six or less points six times last year.
Second, the depth at the skill positions is there. The depth at line, is not. So, he's playing to the team's strengths, and seeing how it works out.
"Last year we had a lot of skill people that were freshmen. We pulled them up and were limited in what we could do," says Rodgers. "This year in the summer they've worked really hard and did good in the passing league, so I'm very optimistic."
Senior Trevor Williams says it's not just about the skill spots. These seniors are hungry to win.
"We have a lot of leadership this year. Everybody's ready. All of my other captains and seniors are ready. We're ready to rock and roll."
Like a lot of schools trying to improve from a losing season, the Trojans are hopeful they'll get a win or two early in the year. That could give them some confidence for a big season.
