Edgefield, SC--For the past nine years one of the winningest programs around has been the Rebels of Strom Thurmond. Their lowest win total during that time, eight games. Might as well expect double digits again this season.
There is no rebuilding talk, its a total reload and they have the weapons on both sides of the ball. If there was a question, it'd be at center and quarterback with the Rebels graduating a pair of three year starters. Jauveer Hammond or Tyree Stidem will vie for the QB job but will have an experienced line to operate behind.
"I really like the work ethic and the attitude of these guys" said Lee Sawyer "You know we have a good many starters back so of course the expectations, I expect them to be there every year and I think our players and coaches do. But the attitude and their work ethic over the summer and in the first week of practice has been real good."
The focus of the offense will fall on Darius Hammond. The super senior broke his lower leg and missed the final two playoff games but is back at 100%. Hammond is out to prove any naysayers he's as good as advertised.
"I trained to get my leg back strengthened like it was an conditioned hard and just try to stay healthy" said Darrius Hammond
"He was cleared before spring practice and we had problems tackling him in spring practice" said a smiling coach Sawyer "He hasn't shown any signs of it. He's worked hard this summer and I can't really tell the difference"
Aaron Cook will lead the blue steel defense and fully expects to continue the trend of not allowing a whole heck of a lot to the opposition
