Martinez, Ga--In big games teams need guys to step up and take control. For lakeside, the guy leading the Panthers into the playoffs is Johnathan Long. After his performance Friday night, you see why we've selected him as our Operation Football Live player of the week.

Against Brunswick in the region play in game, Long went for 244 yards and three touchdowns. Two in the first half and then a 99 yarder to put the game on ice. Long also runs track and there's no question that helps. What also helps is the leadership role he's taken in the team.

"I've seen a different mind set with him" said coach Jarrett Troxler "He's taken on a little more ownership with the offense and stepping up being a leader. When you lose a vocal leader like Ben Wilson then you need somebody to step up. Mark Weidenaar is a great leader but he's not the most talkative kid so Johnathan kind of serves as our vocal leader over on the offensive side."

"As much as last game we ran the ball, it's important to get ahead first so the other team doesn't have a chance to come back." said Johnathan Long

Long is the perfect complement to quarterback Mark Weidenaar. He's more the vocal guy while mark does things quietly. But there was nothing quiet about long's big game and now lakeside will head into the state playoffs on a high note.
