Four weeks into the football season, Midland Valley looked dead in the water. With a tough opening schedule and a quiet offense, the Mustangs definitely weren't talking playoffs.

They sure are now. With six wins in seven games, the Valley isn't just in the playoffs. They're hosting a second round game.

That doesn't mean it's going to come easy, though. Berkeley, the reigning Class AAAA Champs, are coming to town this week. It's safe to say, the Mustangs are more than happy to let the Stags make the nearly three hour trip to The Valley.

Head Coach Rick Knight says, "As I've said before, it's a comfort zone being here in The Valley, and let them travel three hours to get here. We're playing one of the elite programs in the state of South Carolina. They're the defending Class AAAA State Champions."

One of the big questions is what caused the turn around in Graniteville?? A big part of that is a defense that has really stepped up. They replaced nine starters from last year, but this Mustang "D" can do it all.

Senior Tevin Nuckles says, "It plays a big role in our winning abilities. We can score on both sides of the ball. We can score at any point during the game, so it helps out a lot and takes the pressure off the offense."

Coach Knight says his defense has caused more turnovers than any defense he's had in a long time. They'll need to keep it up in order to move on this week.
