Laney legendary coach David Dupree dies

Wednesday September 12, 2012

Augusta, Ga--When you think Laney football, one name should come to mind, that of David Dupree. Today, the legendary coach died at the age of 88.

He spent 25 years on the football sidelines and coached other sports at Lucy C. Laney high school. During his tenure on the football field, he posted a 209 -60 and 13 mark which included a pair of state titles in 1961 and 1966. Both those years, the Wildcats went undefeated.

His legacy with the program will live for ever as the new stadium bears his name, just a small token of what David Dupree meant to Laney and the city of Augusta.
