Edgefield, SC--When picking our players of the week, a lot of times we get bogged down in the numbers game. How many yards did he pass for or rush for or even tackles made. Well, for Strom Thurmond's Jauveer Hammond, there's only one number that matters most, wins. It's a big reason he's our Academy Sports and Outdoors player of the week.
Against Midland Valley this past Friday, Hammond proved yet again he knows how to win. When the chips were down and the pressure was on, Hammond remained calm and made one big play after another. He's a cool customer under pressure and it's a big reason he succeeds. Hammond never played JV ball and has been at the controls of the Rebel offense for three years now.
"Just trust my teammates and basically put the ball in their hands more because I know teams are going to game plan on me" said Jauveer Hammond "Basically execute the game plan to the best of my ability, listen to what the coaches always tell me on the sidelines and just play my game"
"I asked him in a team meeting last week how many football games have you lost in your high school career in four years and he kind of thought a minute and said four I think" said Lee Sawyer " That's because of a lot of people but it's no accident that he was in the middle of that run where he's only lost four games in four years"
Strom Thurmond has had a rich history in quarterbacks in the past decade, Coco and Aramis Hillary, Raliegh Yeldell and now add the name Jauveer Hammond on the impressive list
