Aiken, SC -- It hasn't necessarily been a banner last few years on the football field at Aiken.

The Hornets finished with just four wins in 2011 and are hunting a winning campaign for just the second time in six years.

So what do you do when you need to turn it around? You put it on the guys up front.

Aiken's plenty experienced on the offensive and defensive lines, and Coach Carey Johnson's going to need to fall back on that up front power early and often.

Seniors Robert Davis and Antonio Watts lead the way. They were All-Region a year ago and about to be four year starters, so while an inexperienced backfield learns the ropes, the big guys handle business.

Davis said, "We definitely are tougher this year. We're not worried about the competition. We're just more or less trying to get ourselves better. With me and Antonio on the defensive line making All-Region last year, we're definitely ready."

Coach Johnson added, "It's been a long haul, especially since two of the guys that are seniors this year starting since they were freshmen on the line. When you're starting freshmen in AAAA football, it makes it pretty tough, but these guys are coming along, and we look for some big things out of the front."

Don't confuse inexperience in the backfield with lack of talent. The Hornets have a couple extremely mobile quarterbacks, and no matter which one is taking snaps, Johnson plans to have both on the field.

"We're going to try to give them the ball in some situations. When one's playing quarterback, the other one will touch the ball somewhere, if it's from wideout to running back or whatever."

The Hornets open the 2012 slate in Petticoat Junction at Silver Bluff. They aren't home until September 7th when they host Midland Valley.
