Before Monday, Aquinas Running Back Brendan Douglas and Burke County Head Coach Eric Parker had only one obvious thing in common. They both took their teams to new heights in 2011. Now, there are two things.
All-state lists were released in Georgia, and both guys got the highest honor.
For Douglas, that's the Offensive Player of the Year award in Class A. The junior ran for just under 1,800 yards and nearly 30 touchdowns, leading the Fighting Irish to the state's elite eight.
As for Parker, it's the class AAA Coach of the Year honor. He brought Burke County the high school's first state championship, leading the Bears to a 14-1 campaign.
Those weren't the only two on the list. We have a kicking lineup Ray Guy would be proud of. Aquinas' Connor Tierney is class A's first team place kicker and we have two punter honors. Evans' Jacob Rizner gets the call in AAAA and Jefferson County's Thomas Pritchard in AA.
A couple offensive linemen get big praise. Burke County's Malcolm Aldridge made the list in AAA and Lincoln County's Dalton Wetherington in A.
On the defensive side, the Red Devils' Craig Jones was named one of the best defensive backs in class A.
