Augusta, Ga--Building a football program is rarely an easy job, particularly when you're doing it basically from the ground up. Before Travis Nixon took the head coach job at Cross Creek, that was the task ahead. He took over a Razorbacks program averaging under three wins per season, and he planned to turn it around.

His team hopes last year was the first step in that process. After winning a single game in 2010, Cross Creek won five times last year and showed they were buying into his system. Most of the skill players from that squad are gone, but the Razorbacks aren't making excuses. They know if they want to continue the process of becoming a winner, they have to prove people wrong once again.

"That's what it takes in building a program. Each year you do better than the last, so it's very important. We're telling the kids on a daily basis that we're in a must win season."

"We want to make it to the playoffs this year for sure. And we really, honestly, want to have a better game against Burke County because they really did put it on us last year."

With a lot of those skill guys graduating from the offensive side of the ball, Cross Creek will be putting a lot on the defense this year, but they're okay with that. Smith, the defensive co-ordinator, says his squad is athletic enough to score almost every game.
