Augusta, Ga--For a number of high school football teams, it really is Christmas in the summer. Tomorrow the hard work starts to pay off with games that count for real. Not everyone on the field and among those who still have to wait, Butler.
It's year three of Myron Newton in charge and he thinks this could be the season they start to turn the corner. Those kids on his team two years ago have stepped up in the off season and are committed to making things happen. Getting an early season win would do wonders for this program.
"When you put a lot of hard work in, you want some type of reward back" said Myron Newton "Winning isn't everything but it means a lot. You want that "W" you work hard and you want to see that "W" You want it to come quickly but these kids, they deserve it, but you know, at the same time they have to work for it, it's not going to be given."
"Very different attitude" said Carlos Smith "We have guys on a serious note this year. Hard work in the weight room, hard work all summer long so you know we're looking to turn the last two losing seasons back around and give Butler a new name."
Coach Newton said this was far and away the best off season conditioning program he's seen and says it's a different attitude in the school.
