Augusta, GA--When we first heard the score of the Aquinas game Friday night and the amount of yards running back Brendan Douglas had, we said right away, player of the week. This is why, 38 carries, 359 yards and five scores in their hard fought win over Hancock Central.
It's one of the biggest explosions from around here in a long time and Douglas deserves it all. Coach Matt LeZotte says there is nobody that works harder before, during or even after practice then the junior. They actually have to tell him to go home. The game Friday wasn't a blowout and in the 4th quarter Aquinas pretty much ran just one play, give the ball to Douglas. The outcome, spectacular.
"Truly we ran pretty much just one play" said Brendan Douglas "You know it's hard to stop and if they can't stop it then you know we're not going to stop. They give me the ball I'm going to run hard so I just do my job and do what I have to do."
"It's just a tribute to his hard work" said coach Matt LeZotte "Those guys know up front, that all they have to do is hold their block for just a second and Brendan can make something happen."
Coach LeZotte also said during the game Douglas had a 30 yard TD run called back on a holding penalty, very next play, he went 40 yards for the score. Oh did we mention he had 10 tackles and a fumble recovery on defense? For those efforts, Brendan Douglas of Aquinas is our Operation Football Live player of the week.
