Augusta Prep looks to rebuild after championship season

Tuesday, August 5, 2014

Augusta, Ga--It was a year to remember for the Augusta Prep cavaliers. Still, the youngest program, around, they did the improbable in winning a title. This year, it's a whole new ballgame with a whole new league.

This was the scene last november as the cavaliers brought home the top prize in the Glory for Christ Football League. This season, the move to the GISA where they fully expect the competition to be tougher. The Cavaliers lost a lot of seniors and will have freshmen and sophomores having to step up their game to help give this current graduating group their just rewards for the years of hard work.

"The experience definitely helps, but we still have a long way to go and we know that." said Harry Bacheller "We try to keep them humble and there's always a lot better teams and coaches out there. The program is young, we're only the third year of our varsity so we know we still have a long way to go."

"We have to play more as a team this year. We had a lot of individual talent last year but after this summer, we've definitely come together as a team and we're ready to go this year."

Coach Bacheller is a realist when it comes to the season ahead and knows full well they'll have lots of challenges. Don't look for an overhaul to the offense, but don't be surprised, if they throw the ball a few more times. They'll open the season against Augusta Christian on the 22nd.
