Augusta, Ga--When we talked Aquinas football a year ago most conversations started and ended with Brendan Douglas. For good reason, he was that good. This year, don't expect his absence to make the goals change or the probability of getting there any less.
In reality this team may be better then a year ago. A huge senior class has the learning curve a lot smaller. Pretty much all the lineman return and they have speed a plenty in the backfield. That's where you'll find Ruben Garnett and John Morris. First year coach James Leonard takes over the reigns and expects this team to be there in the end, battling for a title.
"We lost three great players but we have a big senior class that's been here, they've been doing it for four years now" said James Leonard "They know our offense, they know our defense, we only added one new coach, so its all familiar faces. Same defense, same offense, so we don't change a whole lot, The only thing we're trying to change is the attitude a little bit. We're trying to get a little bit more out of them"
"He's brought in a new intensity that we're not going to settle, we're going to better so I think the team is really embracing that a lot better this year" said Ruben Garnett
Garnett and Morris bring more speed and the Irish hope to utilize that more then ever. Sophomore Liam Welch is expected to take the snaps under center, but needless to say with the seniors up front, the pressure shouldn't be as much as you might expect.
