Campin' with News 12: Swainsboro Tigers

News 12 @ 11 Sunday Aug 19

Swainsboro, Ga--While Georgia schools are back in session, there's still two weeks to go before they kick off the season. For the Tigers of Swainsboro, they're glad they have the time since it'll be a new look for this Tiger tale.

After losing several key figures on offense, coach Shane Williamson has decided to spread things out and put the defense on edge, always guessing of where the tigers will pounce. Quarterback Rashad James along with wide recievers Byron Phillips and Darrien Davis will play key roles in that attack.

"We really didn't feel like we had the running backs and the offensive line that we needed." said head coach Shane Williamson. "Just want to keep our defense strong and keep playing defense. We have good athletes so we feel like they need to be in wide open spaces and get them the football and let them make some stuff happen one on one."

Swainsboro finished 9 and 2 last year and are once again expecting big things. They'll rely on the winning tradtion and a little thing called defense to get 'em back to the playoffs.

"We've always relied on our defense here. We take a lot of pride in putting our best 11 athletes on defense adn we feel like we'll be able to do that again." Coach williamson added.

Swainsboro opens with Johnson, Savannah before an early season matchup with Warren County in week two.
