SALUDA, S.C.---They haven't exactly been world beaters the last couple of years, but the Saluda Tigers are a team on the rise. Three wins two years ago, five, a season ago has Saluda thinking big.
It won't come easy for coach Bill Wayne and company as a lot of underclassmen will need to step up. While they return pretty much their entire line, they need to replace a quarterback and a couple of wide receivers. Colby Watkins returns in the backfield and the Tigers are hoping to score more points this year.
Lewis Coleman says, "Our offensive line is going to have to help a lot this year. They were one of our weak points last year but we have a lot of them coming back this year and maybe we'll be able to run the ball some more."
Bill Wayne says, "We can't use the excuse of being young. We're young but we have some experience so we can't use that excuse. We just hope our young men go out each and every day and compete, practice hard and try to cut down on mistakes."
One thing that's improved already, the overall strength as they've worked hard in the weight room. Coach Wayne is hoping upcoming scrimmages and jamborees will go a long way in preparing them for the season.
