PETTICOAT JUNCTION, S.C.---A 10 win season over early in the playoffs; at home loss no less. If that's not motivation enough for Silver Bluff in '07 then coach Al Lown should hang up his whistle. But just like every year in Petticoat Junction, big things are expected from the bulldogs.
For the Silver Bluff fottball team, two things are always certain. The dogs will find a way to win games and they'll do it without many players. Something coach Al Lown has gotten used to.
"We got kids that want to work hard, so i'd rather have thirty of them than fifty who don't want to work hard," says Lown.
Those hard workers include senior Fred Blanchard. Blanchard is beginning his second year as the starting quarterback and enjoying the added pressure.
Blanchard says, Iit's alot pf responsibilty. I gotta be a leader out there and show people I can take the job."
Having an experienced signal-caller will help with an inexperienced offensive line. The dogs only have one returning starter to protect Blanchard and a young backfield. That one returning starter though is determined to keep the offense rolling and make sure his veteran quarterback has time to work.
Ricky Ccushman says, "We've been working together the last couple of years. I look out for him, he keeps me looking good. It helps."
The Bulldogs start their season in South Carolina 2-A, August 24th in Denmark-Olar.
