Hephzibah ready for region battle with Lakeside

Thursday Oct. 1, 2009

Hephzibah, Ga--Business is picking up on the high school football front with a couple of big games that can go a long way in determining region champs. One of those ballgames has Hephzibah playing Lakeside.

While the Panthers have cracked the state rankings for the first time ever, the Rebels may be the best one loss team in the state with that loss at Lincoln County. The offense has come to life and the defense has pitched shutouts in their three victories. A year ago, it was a two point Lakeside win and don't be surprised if this goes down to the final play again on Friday.

"Just getting off to a good start for both teams and both teams defenses have played excellent this year so the key is going to be which defense can hold up their end of the bargain better." said Hephzibah coach John Bowen

A big change for the rebels this year compared to last, the play of kicker Dustin Dekert. Hephzibah really didn't have a solid place kicker a season ago but do now and he can be a difference maker in close ballgames.

This was one of the best games I have seen. Hephzibah WON, and should be given the recognition they deserve. If you watch the video that Comcast have recorded, notice who had more camera time on Lakeside. Is this because Lakeside is from Columbia County. If Lakeside had won you would be singing from the roof tops. Fact, Hephzibah had the must penaltys, still won because of the bogus calls. Fact Unsportmanship conduct, Lakeside, including the Coach did not want to shake hands after the game was over. Hephzibah deserve their recognition, just because they are from Richmond dont make us parents any less prouder.
