Williston, SC--Every Wednesday here on News 12, we'll tell you our choice for our Operation Football Live, McDonald's player of the week. This week, it was pretty easy. When you score six touchdowns, you have a pretty good chance of winning.
That was the case for Williston-Elko tailback Dexter Staley. Against Barnwell the junior ran for four touchdowns, caught another, and then recovered a fumble for a another. Performances like that may be why he is being recruited by the likes of Georgia, Florida and other SEC schools. And with it being just his junior year, Staley has three goals in mind for the rest of the season
"I'm doing good, get my grades right and maintain so I can go to college, and try to get my team a ring this year" said Dexter Staley "The rest of the year I'm going to try to score five more a game. If my coach lets me do it, I"m pretty sure I'd do it."
"Barring he doesn't get hurt, football is a done deal for him. So he's going to have to work at his academics and really stress over the next two years that he ha to do well in the classroom." said coach Dwayne Garrick "If he does all that, then everything else will take care of itself and the football part is already in place for him."
In fact, Tueday was a big day for Staley, as the University of Florida officially offered him a scholarship. Staley doesn't plan on making his decision until after the season so he can focus on getting the Blue Devils to the title game.
