Sylvania, GA--Two days now until pretty much every high school football team hits the field. For Screven County, getting back on the field is exactly what they want to do, especially after missing the playoffs last year.

The Gamecocks didn't have a bad year at 6-4 but that's not good either in Sylvania. Remember, they won a state title just seven years ago. Good news is that the team returns 10 starters on defense and 4 starters on the offensive line. But as far as the skill positions, you'll see a lot of new faces starting for the Gamecocks, which may be a bit of a worry for the team early on.

"Well, I think our skill positions have to get some game experience pretty quick," said head coach Pat Collins. "Our scrimmage the other night was shortened due to lightning and we weren't able to get all of it in as we wanted to. We've just got to grow those guys up real quick.

The reason those young guys have to grow up so quick is because Screven starts the season against two playoff qualifiers from last year. Week one, they host Dublin and then travel to Laney. And that's just two of ten straight region games in what may be the toughest region in 2-A.
