Augusta, Ga--Playing a full 48 minutes might be a little easier for the Spartans of Glenn Hills this year. And it might result in a trip not only to the playoffs, but a game or two deeper then in the past.
First and foremost despite losing some athletes, the Spartans return a number of them, in particular, Terrell Fitts. One of the more highly sought after seniors in the area, Fitts will anchor a defense that could be as strong as ever. Not having as many kids play on both sides of the ball should also help a lot.
"We had a good season last year but we had a lot of people playing both ways" said senior Terrell Fitts "Now we can separate a little bit and have people play defense and people play offense and go 100%"
With coach Ernest Tolbert having been sidelined with hip surgery, Vyus Downs, the defensive coordinator has stepped in on an interim basis. Tolbert could be back this week, but downs knows while defense will be the strength, there's some kids on the offensive side that can get the job done.
"We try to definitely spread it out a whole lot and be even. So we don't want to say our best asset is our run or pass, we want to say both, but definitely our defense." said interim head coach Vyus Downs
"We have weapons everywhere. You try to stop one person, we have another person who'll step up, we have weapons everywhere." added Fitts
Justin and Jonathan Lord along with Chris Washington and Kendrick Armstrong are just a few names you'll be hearing about as the Spartans chase a playoff spot into November.
