Grovetown, Ga--They are the new kids on the block and their waiting little time to make a splash on the football field. Many schools just starting will start slow, not Grovetown who's fielding a varsity program right out of the gates.
Rodney Holder is the man in charge out of the gates and as you heard, he had a good blue print to work with having helped out at Greenbrier when they started. Don't be surprised if the warriors are competitive this first year. They only have a half dozen seniors but each of them have taken it upon themselves to be leaders and set the bar high for the younger kids.
"We're trying to become not just another school in Columbia County but the best school in Columbia County. sand Dominquie Mingo "I think we can achieve that with the years to come, these young guys out here are working hard and I believe after I leave they're really going to do something with this school."
"All these guys have a different tradition and so when we come out here we got to go 10 times as hard because those old traditions are not going to be acceptable on this field. We're Warriors and that's the Warrior thing." added Marvon Dazie
Former Harlem standout Seth Hill could easily by the go to guy out of the gates. Hill has been impressive and according to coach holder, has worked the hardest of any kids in the CSRA in the off season. He's one of the skill guys that may surprise some folks.
"It's definitely in the skill area" said coach Rodney Holder "Right now our lineman are younger, but they're going to be good, they just have a lot to learn. When you play young linemen, sometimes they get exposed but skill wise I think we can run with pretty much anybody."
Schedule won't be easy with Grovetown getting an early start on things against Buford tomorrow night. They also take on Northside Warner Robbins and Fairfield during the season. Tough games that could get some kids noticed by those at the next level.
