Briarwood banking on senior leadership

Briarwood is a small school with a small team. But it's also a team with a big heart and with big dreams for the 2009 season.

Last season, the Bucs won 7 games under then first year head coach Josh Osborne. But now, everyone is older and wiser, from the coaches to the players. That should be a huge help as the senior class leads this team into battle every Friday night. And with their leadership and knowledge of the system, there's no telling just how good this team could be when they hit the field.

"We are a total team," said Osborne. "We care about each other. We'll do what we have to do for each of us to succeed and that is where our strength is."

"We have a strong senior class," said senior fullback/safety Matt McElveen. "I think there are 8 of us. It means a lot when you have a team with a lot of seniors. it helps out a lot."

The Bucs return a lot of key skill players on offense like Mcelveen and RB Trey Stadler. But like most small schools in our area, depth at every position is a problem so staying healthy will be important to the success of the team.
