Burke County looks to eclipse the eight win mark

Wednesday Aug. 12, 2009

Waynesboro, Ga--For the first time in over a decade Burke County has had back to back eight win seasons. That's not good enough for this program and head coach Eric Parker and the rest of the Bears. Getting to the playoffs are good, winning a state title would be even greater.

Bears lost a pretty good crew of position players including their top back Brandon Brown and top receiver Bobby Burum. It's OK, they do return quarterback Terrel Brigham who can do it all. Last year 1,100 yards rushing and another 1800 passing...Did i mention 33 total touchdowns? When it comes down to it, Eric Parker puts it pretty simple when talking about goals for the season.

"We'd like to win our first ballgame, we'd like to win the last one and we'd like to win all of them in between." said coach Eric Parker

If it was only that easy. Bears averaged nearly 28 points a game and doing that again won't be easy. If Brigham can produce and some of the younger folks step up, then they'll be a player into late November.

"The coaches are putting all the players in positions to make all the plays so I think we're going to pick up where we left off last year" said Terrell Brigham "I want it very bad...and the rest of the team, they keep on driving for it, we're going to get it."

"I think the thing is we're just going to have to do it by committee" added coach Parker "Obviously we have a really good quarterback in Terrell Brigham. I think he's surrounded by some solid kids but maybe not headline type players, but certainly guys who can get the job done, just hard nosed, tough kids. And that's what we're pushing now. Just be blue collar, every Friday night, lets just go out and do whatever it takes to be successfull."

Oh by the way in case you weren't keeping score at home, if they do win their first game and last game and every game in between, that equals a state title. We'll see if it happens.
