Augusta, Ga--A year ago Westside suffered through a three and seven season, something they're not used to have happen at the battlefield. This year, there's plenty of motivation to turn things around.
15 seniors return to a roster that's not all that big to begin with. While they lost their quarterback, they didn't lose Mr. Everything Chris Hunter. A year ago, he went over the 1500 yard mark and hunter is capable of breaking pretty much every play. He, like everyone, knows teams will be focusing on him so hunter needs to step up his game even more.
"Chris is going to get an opportunity to carry us. We'll see how that works out but he's going to get an opportunity." said coach Gerald Barnes
"I just got to be ready and prepared to play. Be ready for what the teams are bringing this year. I know they're be looking out for me, scheming so I have to be ready and train hard." said Chris Hunter
While the offense will revolve around him, the defense needs to get better, and we're talking a lot better. The guys have been in the weight room more and have been working on technique to slow the opposition down
"We just have to train hard on defense. We missed a lot of tackles last year and we're focusing on wrapping up more this year and stop letting a team run on us more." added James Stalling
In case you didn't notice, coach Gerald Barnes returns to the sidelines after a one year hiatus. He knows depth will be a question but is hoping the team gels quickly when the season starts for real.
