North Augusta, SC--We're into our second week of previewing area teams and today we head to North Augusta and the home of the Yellow Jackets. After a solid seven win campaign a year ago, the Jackets are hoping to turn it up a notch and make a run in the post season.
No question the team has the talent with five kids being recruited by Division One schools. That doesn't always win ballgames though and these guys know that. Even with a team that put a bunch of points on the board last year, they were bounced in the first round of the playoffs. It didn't exactly leave the best of taste in these guys mouths.
"It's very important to us because people say we're a first round team and we're going to prove that we can go further in the playoffs then just the first round." said senior Rick Griffin
"I think we can go way furthern then the first round." said Brandon Bright "We just have to play hard."
Two big shoes they have to fill is in the backfield and replacing Tidy Johnson. A near 2000 yard man last year, Tidy was one of a kind. Right now it looks like it's going to be DeMarcus Rouse who'll see plenty of action. He brings a different dimension to the game.
"DeMarcus is lot bigger, he's about 210 pounds and he's real fast, I mean real, real fast" said coach Dan Pippin "It's something we haven't had but I don't know if you're ever going to get a kid like Tidy (Johnson) that just kind of hits you in the mouth on every play, play after play after play.DeMarcus is going to kind of make you miss and we're kind of excited about having him here though."
This is a team with 30 seniors and coach Pippin mentioned its time for them to leave their mark on the program and enjoy their last year on the gridiron.
