Augusta, Ga--This year, more then ever, there seems to be new coaches taking over teams. Eight of them in our area alone. One of them, at Aquinas as Matt Lezotte is now in charge of the Fighting Irish.
The former Westside grad has been on the Aquinas staff the last few years, but now is the decision maker. First and foremost, he got the guys into the weight room more then ever. When you have a lot of kids that play on both sides of the ball, conditioning is huge
"We need to be well conditioned and we need to be in shape, we need to be tough and we need to execute, we're banking on those things" said new coach Matt Lezotte "If we can do that then any football team is hard to beat if you can do those things well."
"He's really organized this team and made us a lot stronger and work out in the weight room and he's just made us a better team all together." added senior Garrett Pippen
Plenty of familiar faces return to the Aquinas lineup which bodes well, especially for the guys up front. You see Aquinas plays in arguably the toughest region in class a with the likes of Lincoln County and Wilkinson County. Getting off to a good start before region play will be important.
"Those are really going to help get everyone going and get our spirits up so if we can do good those first five games that should help carry out through our region play and really get us going for all the other games." said Tyler Snead an Aquinas senior
The Irish finished three and seven a year ago and the goal this year to improve upon that. Those non region games to start things will go along way if that's to be the case
