Barnwell, SC--It was a year to remember in more ways then one for Barnwell in 2008. In 2009 they're hoping the year to remember is all on the football field.
Coming off a 7 and 5 season and a trip to the second round of the playoffs have expectations high at the home of the Warhorses. A good nucleus of players return led by running back Colby Carter. All's he did last year was tally 21 touchdowns and over 1800 yards rushing. But what really galvanized this team was how the responded following the death of 16 year old James Wooden. He may be gone, but he's certainly not forgotten.
"Because big James was in our class and we feel like we have to represent for him this year" said senior Dakota Priester "We're trying to get the offensive line together and the chemistry right for the team so we can have the best season we can possibly have."
"I'll tell you what, we're one big family and that's one thing that keeps driving us everyday" said coach Joey Still "With the death of James last year, something we think about 24 hours out of the day, and we're happy to be here and the opportunity that god's given us to come out here every day to play football is just tremendous."
For Barnwell to win, they'll have to band together once again on the field. The offensive line will be young, but big. If the team chemistry comes quickly and a young quarterback steps up quickly to take some of the pressure of carter, look for the warhorses to be a contender down the line.
