Lincolnton, Ga--"Our band is up there practicing Christmas music. We like to feel that when we hear that we've had a pretty good football season." said coach Larry Campbell
Ah yes, Christmas music and high school football, they just seem to go together. At least in Lincoln County its the norm not the exception. Tomorrow night, state semifinals for the Red Devils as they hit the road to Norcross as they tangle with Wesleyan.
It's just the second ever meeting between the two teams as the Wolves drop down a class and have won 10 straight. For Lincoln County, the win streak is at nine. But even coach Larry Campbell knows, winning in December takes more then being a good football team.
"I tell them all the time it's not necessarily the best team will win it." said coach Campbell "The team that doesn't mind getting out here in this cold weather and doesn't whine about being in the cold weather and the team that sometimes gets the better draw as who you're playing, and then you have the luck of no injuries. So there's a lot of things that go into a state championship game."
This might be the most impressive stat, in coach Campbell's 37 years with the program, Lincoln County has played in the state semifinals an amazing 25 times. Game time tomorrow night, 7:30.
