Johnston, SC--It's been a banner year for football in Edgefield County. Strom Thurmond, undefeated as they tee it up again on Friday. Just about a mile or two away from the home of the Rebels, is aguably the best 8 man team in the state, Wardlaw Academy.
Patriots will vie for the crown Friday night when they take on Andrew Jackson. A year ago the Patriots struggled a bit, but have put all the pieces together and are undefeated as they go for the crown. It's been a few years since Wardlaw has laid claim to the crown, but the confidence they exhibit has them ready to hoist a trophy again on Friday night.
"We've been playing together for a real long time and I guess we just have more team chemistry going this year." said senior Travis Gagnon
"This year, we've grown together as a team more, over the summer. We've worked harder this year then we had last year." added quarterback Stephen Balentine
"They've come through the system all this time and finally just blossomed out." said coach Hubert Morris
Another advantage the Patriots have, they beat Andrew Jackson a month ago 34-14, but they played without their quarterback and running back in that game. Tomorrow night's game will be played at Calhoun Academy in St. Matthews, that's near Orangeburg.
