Waynesboro, Ga--It's a problem Burke County coach Eric Parker is relishing and dreading in the same sentence. A loaded schedule will pit his Bears up against it as they try to regain some of the past glory and success of the school.
With 13 starters back there's some talent, Terrell Brigham on top of that list as he comes back as quarterback, not a wide receiver. He'll lead a team that finished the season with eight straight wins and a trip to the postseason.
"You have to remember last year, these kids played the first playoff football game in their career" said head coach Eric Parker "So this is a little bit new but you know we're just going to keep pushing and keep pushing."
With the kids buying into the system put in place by their second year head coach, things are progressing quickly. No baby steps here and if you ask the players, they have no problem being challenged like they never have before.
"I mean he pushes us. This past week we've been pushed hard and I like that about him" said senior Arsenio Strong
"We're in a transistion year, we're really trying to take this program to a level a lot higher then where we've competed the last few years and I think with that there may be some growing pains but we're not going to be patient and we're going to be on our kids about performing to the best of their ability." added coach Parker
Back to the schedule for a second, added to their tough slate and in their region now, Thomson and Washington County. So just getting to the playoffs is a lot tougher then it might have been in the past.
