Augusta, Ga--A year ago there were definitely growing pains for Aquinas and new coach Bill Tenore. Not a big shock when someone different comes in and takes over a program. This year could be vastly different then a three win season.
First take this into consideration, those three wins, came in the last three weeks, so the Fighting Irish are taking some momentum into this year. It would have been one thing to win early and fall flat late, but these guys came on and were chomping at the bit for this year to begin.
"It's a huge momentum booster" said senior quarterback Brandon Paul "As really learning the plays and everything, we really didn't have all the plays in and a bunch of new packages we put in that really worked for us. We were able to use that and carry that into next year."
"Experience, last year we had a new coaching staff and learning new plays, this year we kind of know what we're going to do and I think we can turn that three game winning streak into a five game or six game like you said" said Drew Hill
Aquinas also brings a whole bunch of play makers back. From quarterback Brandon Paul to a solid core of wide receivers like Drew Hill, the team has some talent. They also have heart and character of knowing how to get the job done.
"We have a number of talented receivers" said coach Bill Tenore "I think our ability to mix it up, we're going to have a strong running game. I think a few of these receivers, if Brandon (Paul) can get them the ball, they can do some things so we'll just try to use what we have."
Even coach Tenore readily admits the team is much further ahead of where they were at the same time last season.
